This is no fault of NetherRealm Studios or Nintendo, but it does steal the thunder from new Soulcalibur releases. ![]() ![]() However, it is mildly upsetting to see the stand-out features of Soulcalibur get copied by other games in a way that seemingly makes them obsolete in the original series. Obviously, the number of fighters from different franchises does not denote the quality of a game. The Witcher series' Geralt was available in the base game, and 2B from Nier: Automata and Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown were added in DLC. Comparatively, the latest Soulcalibur game, Soulcalibur VI, featured only three additional characters. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 11 featured five DLC characters who had not been in a previous MK game and were from entirely different franchises. That does not include the extra characters that were added in previous Smash Bros. Ultimate had 12 guest fighters added to the base game. RELATED: Finish Them! Why Mortal Kombat Needs to End Unfortunately, this also made Soulcalibur's guest characters feel dated by comparison. Each title featured a wide variety and number of guest characters, and every new character each game added was an exciting event. Ultimate, guest characters became an important part of those series as well. However, with the release of new games like Mortal Kombat 11 and Super Smash Bros. ![]() Seeing how viable and fun a guest character was in each game became one of the many joys of playing Soulcalibur. ![]() It became an exhilarating thrill for fans to see which new character(s) would be added to each new entry.
